The travel industry is constantly changing. New ships are being built and companies change their procedures. Carnival just changed their smoking practices. Ships get reassigned to different ports. The Norwegian Cruise Line’s Epic is doing Europe in 2015 instead of the Caribbean. Our agency is constantly taking online courses, watching videos from various travel companies provided by hotels, all-inclusive resorts, spas, cruise lines, tour companies and multiple other vendors.
Attending conferences with the various suppliers are important as part of this continuing education. Our agency just returned from one where we were able to speak to representatives from various suppliers in the travel industry. We were able to ask questions, learn what is coming from their companies, what is new in the industry, and pick up lots of new brochures. Seminars on the products allowed us to learn details of what is coming in the future for these vendors, what’s happening now and what seems to be the most popular activities in the market right now.
Business building and marketing ideas were also presented. How to get the information out to our clients in the best way without inundating our clients with emails. Social media is very important for both the travelers and the agencies. Dialogue between the two allows the agencies to know what their clients are looking for and then providing that information and travel products. Check out our Facebook page, like our page, comment and start a dialogue with us.
Learning about the various suppliers is important, but learning about the travel industry and the world geography is also important. Certification is key to that learning process. The owner just took the test at the conference to become a Certified Travel Associate from The Travel Institute and passed. The required documentation for the designation has been submitted and we are now waiting to receive her certificate. The owner has already obtained her Accredited Cruise Counsellor (ACC) designation from the Cruise Lines International Association and has obtained various certifications from various suppliers like Club Med, Universal Studios, Disney and various cruise lines.
